A huge line of violent storms crossed a large part of Michigan on Thursday evening and early this morning, causing a hilly wave of tornado warnings.
Although the National Weather Service did not confirm any official tornado early this morning, there have been several reports of funnel clouds seen and tornado tornado, with rotation and “debris balls” that accompany the radar. It can be a day or two before we know if we had official tornadoes – and how much we had them.
In some counties like Ingham, emergency officials went out during the night to see if they could spot storm damage. The NWS should send investigation teams today to check the damage reports to see if it was caused by a tornado, or simply damage the winds in a straight line.
Powerful winds exceeding 70 MPH have been reported, as well as “gustnado” winds which have dropped a multitude of trees on the storm path. Gustnado’s winds are whirlwind -shaped gusts that are formed at the edge of a storm line.
These winds overthrew at least two half Demi-Fins, trapping people inside, according to reports from emergency officials. A semi would have been returned to Ingham County on the United States 127 near Barnes Street, south of Mason. The second report of a semi -overturned came from the county of Eaton, on Millet Highway between South Canal Road and South Creyts Road.
