‘Top Thrill 2,’ one of the world’s fastest and tallest roller coasters, opens at Cedar Point – NBC Chicago

One of the world’s tallest and fastest roller coasters will open this weekend at an iconic Midwest theme park.

“Top Thrill 2, the world’s tallest and fastest triple-launch roller coaster,” will open to the public at Cedar Point on opening day Saturday, a release said.

According to the release, a “strata” roller coaster is a roller coaster that exceeds a height of 400 feet. The first of its kind debuted at Cedar Point in 2003, the release added.

Park officials say the new “reimagined” roller coaster has two 420-foot-tall towers, “putting riders in the driver’s seat of one of the greatest rides of all time.”

As the ride begins, guests will immediately hurtle down the straightaway, reaching speeds of up to 74 miles per hour. Riders will then race skyward to the roller coaster’s “top hat” tower, 420 feet away.

The following is an adrenaline junkie’s favorite, Cedar Point said.

“After experiencing weightlessness during the “flipback” – the coveted and fan-favorite moment where the train’s momentum is not great enough to go up and over the tower – the train shifts into gear backwards and makes its second launch, reaching a speed of 101 mph,” the release said.

The roller coaster, which reaches speeds of 120 miles per hour, also features a backward climb at a 90-degree angle and a 270-degree spiral, officials said.

“Cedar Point has a long-standing legacy of record-breaking roller coaster innovation and Top Thrill 2 offers everything a thrill-seeker could want, including stunning height and speed,” said Carrie Boldman, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point in the press release. release.

According to the release, Cedar Point is the second oldest amusement park in the country. According to Six Flags, the Kingda Ka ride at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey currently holds the title of “the world’s tallest roller coaster” and “the fastest roller coaster in North America.”
