PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — The DJ amping up the crowd of some 1,500 for the first-ever TGL match at the SoFi Center Tuesday night unwittingly captured the Gen-Z concept best when he ranted these words in the moments before the players were to be introduced to thumping music and towel-waving fans:
“This is not a golf club. This is not a country club. This is a club.’’
TGL, which stands for Tomorrow Golf League, is not your father’s golf. And that, of course, is the point to this creative and aggressive venture.
TGL is not here to compete with majors, the Ryder Cup, the Players Championship or LIV Golf. It’s here to draw the non-traditional golf fan to the game.
