Tom Hardy wins martial arts competitions

Hollywood superstar Tom Hardy shocked the world recently by showing off his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu blue belt skills at separate events in Wolverhampton and Milton Keynes.

The actor, known for playing tough man roles in Peaky Blinders, Mad Max, The Dark Knight Rises and Bronson, has been training in martial arts since starring as an MMA fighter in the movie “Warrior ” from 2011.

Lately, he’s been putting his skills to the test.

Last month the 45-year-old scored two wins at an event in Wolverhampton organized to raise money for a charity which supports the training of military personnel and first responders facing serious mental and physical challenges .

Last weekend Hardy won gold again, this time it was at a BJJ competition in Milton Keynes which was organized to help local charities and get children involved in the sport according to its organiser. Mohamed Itoumaine.

Although Hardy surprised everyone with his grappling prowess, it didn’t shock those in the world of Jiu-Jitsu which is becoming overrun with celebrities.

Several other high-profile actors are actually ranked higher than Hardy in the sport, though none of them compete publicly like the Venom star.

Most notably, Ashton Kutcher of ‘That 70s Show’ and ‘Two and a Half Men’, is the proud owner of a BJJ brown belt after starting the sport 10 years ago.

The 44-year-old trains under 8th degree red and white belt Rigan Machado who runs “The Academy Beverly Hills”, which is understandably where a lot of celebrities go.

Kutcher was filmed training with UFC middleweight Paulo Costa and BJJ legend Craig Jones, but there is no public footage of him competing in any form of grappling match.

Jason Statham and Russell Brand, who both hold purple belts after years of training, are other notable players highly ranked in the ancient martial art.

The ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ star took to YouTube to react to getting her latest belt upgrade in December 2021: “What this purple BJJ belt means to me is that I have changed as a person.

“What I learned from jiu-jitsu was how to manage my body. I learned humility. I learned that there are a lot of people who really, really know what they are doing. .

“As I learned to use my own body differently, I am more sure. I feel more comfortable with myself. I don’t feel so upset and scared.

Several other actors such as Jonah Hill, Keanu Reaves, Charlie Hunnam, Margot Robbie, Nicholas Cage and Vin Diesel are known to practice BJJ.

The love affair between sports and celebrities goes beyond the acting world, with several other highly ranked performers in the sport.

These include popular UFC commentator and podcaster Joe Rogan and director Guy Ritchie, both of whom hold black belts. WWE legend Dave Bautista is a purple belt while musician Demi Lovato is a blue belt, as is comedian Russell Peters.

It remains to be seen if any of the aforementioned will follow in Hardy’s footsteps by putting his training to the test and proving his rankings are legit by competing.
