TMC Gets Approval for Deep Sea Mining Pilot Project

Deep-sea mining of battery metals is one step closer to reality after one of space’s most prominent companies was given permission to test if it’s safe to collect nodules from the seabed.

Vancouver-based The Metals Company has received permission from the International Seabed Authority to collect nodules of iron or manganese from the seabed between Hawaii and Mexico, testing whether it is viable to extract ocean battery metals for commercial purposes.
