TMC announces major organizational overhaul in Bengal ahead of 2026 Assembly elections

The Trinamool Congress on Sunday (October 19) announced an organizational reshuffle in several districts of West Bengal, including changes within its minority cell, as part of its strategy to counter the BJP ahead of the 2026 assembly elections.

The ruling party has appointed new ward and town presidents for its women, youth and workers sections in districts such as Nadia, Birbhum and Basirhat (North 24 Parganas). The party also unveiled new district-level committees.

“The TMC, under the inspiration and leadership of party president Mamata Banerjee, is pleased to announce the list of new block/city presidents of the Trinamool Congress,” the party said in a statement.

With a focus on consolidating minority votes and countering the BJP’s Hindutva narrative, the TMC also named new presidents for 35 organizational districts, including Kolkata North and South, North and South 24 Parganas and Murshidabad (Berhampore and Jiaganj), sources said.

The appointments aim to ensure closer engagement with the minority community.

“We are making changes based on the performance of leaders and workers and their connection with the masses. There will be more such changes in the coming days,” TMC state general secretary Kunal Ghosh told PTI.

Besides the organizational revamp, the party has launched block-level Bijoya Sammelanis – post-Durga Puja awareness programs – across the state, with over 60 such events organized so far.

Around 50 ministers, MLAs and MLAs have been tasked to visit various parts of the state, including constituencies held by the BJP, to highlight the government’s welfare schemes, strengthen ties with the grassroots and prepare cadres for office-level work ahead of the revision of electoral rolls, a party member said.
