Nashville – Cam Ward had been Titan for less than 48 hours, and he was already campaigning for players – Future teammates – during the NFL draft.
When others were chosen by the Titans, Ward stretched out to congratulate them while they were talking with the selection team officials.
“This is the type of teammate that Cam is,” said the director general of the Titans, Mike Borgonzi. “And that’s all we heard about it throughout the process is that he is one of the guys. I think that is why many of his teammates have been gravity towards him. He tweeted just after that, but that just shows you his leadership, his team capacity.”
With a smile, Borgonzi said Ward had actually sent him SMS during the draft on the choices.
“It is quite quickly on it,” said Borgonzi about Ward.
During his first day at ascension Saint Thomas Sports Park, after being selected by the Titans, Ward went around inside the building.
At one point, he met the veterans Calvin Ridley and Tony Pollard, and spent time speaking with them.
Ward, known for his leadership qualities, openly explained how he wants to be a leader, even as a recruit.
Borgonzi said Ward has major leadership features. Even at 22 (Ward will be 23 years old next month), Ward will not be shy in a team with players much older than him.
“Much of this, we talked with him before the draft, he has a great conscience in terms of place where he is,” said Borgonzi about Ward. “He knows that entering an NFL cloakroom, he will have to gain respect for everyone in this locker room. First of all, establishing relationships with everyone in the team is a large part.
“But this is one of the special things about him that we have learned in a way through the process, that he has a great conscience. And I think he knows that he must gain respect for everyone here.”
