Tiny Terry’s Turbo Trip Review: A Simpsons Standalone: Hit And Run

Below this paragraph is my full review of Tiny Terry’s Turbo Journey-a new open-world comedy action game available now on Steam and playable on Steam Deck. And it’s a good review. It does what you expect. But I can save you some time now. If you are a fan of The Simpsons: Hit and Runthen you should play Tiny Terry’s Turbo Journey. It’s a perfect recreation of this silly open world RGT-as a fundraising experiment, just without Homer and Springfield. Anyway, for anyone still reading, here’s the review.

Tiny Terry’s Turbo Journey tells the classic story of a strange teenager who skips summer school while his family is on vacation to focus on his dream of driving a car into space. This is the basic premise of Turbo Travel. You are Tiny Terry and after lying to get a job at a taxi company, you get a car. Now it’s up to you to collect scraps and cash to help you upgrade your taxi and make it go faster and faster. If you upgrade it fully, you can drive it up to a giant building and into space. Probably. At least that’s the plan. And that’s your goal in Tiny Terry’s Turbo Journey.

However, to get all the scraps and cash needed to max out your taxi and reach space, you’ll need to explore a delightfully colorful and zany open world filled with characters to help and collectibles to find. Right away, Turbo TravelThe visuals of the cartoon impressed me. Even on a Steam Deck, the game looks wonderful, like a trippy, lively Saturday morning cartoon directed by Weird Al.

Every character I encountered in this strange world was a misshapen hunk of bright colors and limbs. Best of all, they all made me laugh, often because they didn’t know how to react to Tiny Terry. His bizarre antics and dedication to being the strangest one in the room lead to some of the best awkward pauses I’ve ever experienced in a video game.

I enjoyed that too, as strange and wild as Turbo Travel gets, it never feels like he’s doing things just to be random. It still feels like a (somewhat) real world with real people living in it. Even Terry has his moments of real growth and care. All of this helps the game avoid the trap of being a collection of internet memes and bad jokes thrown together randomly, which is what other comedy games can often feel like. There is depth here.

But good writing, colorful visuals, silly antics, and a cute main character aren’t enough to make a good game. You also have to have fun playing it, and Tiny Terry’s Turbo Journey also excels in this area.

Super rare originals / Snekflat

It sounds lazy, but the best way to describe this game is: Simpsons: Hit and Run, but without the copyrighted characters. As Hit and runIn Turbo Travel you explore a vast but not massive open world, filled with random trash (in this case, literal trash) to collect. Sometimes the trash is lying around. Other times it is hidden in secluded places. As Hit and run, you do some light platforming to reach these locations while completing silly quests for townsfolk that often involve driving and jumping around town. Also as Hit and runyou can get into any NPC’s car and drive around town as a passenger.

Turbo Travel actually extends over Hit and run adding more upgrades that you can unlock as you play, like a glider and different weapons. (Oh, don’t worry, there’s no combat in this game. You just use weapons to open boxes or annoy random NPCs.) I also much prefer running and driving. Turbo Travel because the platforming feels really nice and very responsive compared to the more rigid controls of Hit and run and even some other great open world games. (You look Assassin’s Creed…)

Tiny Terry’s Turbo Journey It will probably take you less than four hours, but if you try to do and collect everything, it could take more than six hours. Either way, you are going to experience an awesome and fun open world comedy game that In fact Made me laugh a lot and it’s a dream to play. This may not be the case Hit and run 2, but it’s a very good game in itself.
