Timothee Chalamet underlined the impact of Luca Guadagnino’s “Call Me by Your Name” on his career when he received the David Award of Italy for the cinematographic excellence during the 70th edition of the event on Wednesday evening at the Cinecittá studios in Rome.
“Luca is probably the most important person in my career,” said Chalamet, who attended the best Italian films award with girlfriend Kylie Jenner – marking the first time that they walked together a red carpet despite their link for two years – and his father Marc Chalamet. When Chalamet won his first appointment to the best actor in 2017 for “Call Me” by Guadagnino at 22, he was the third nominated in this category.
“I started as a 20 -year -old child in New York who had trouble bursting into the American film industry,” said Chalamet. “My career has occurred overnight thanks to Luca Guadagnino and the chance he has seized to play in an Italian film.”
“I have no family line that crosses Italy. I am not linked to anyone here, but I feel a deep link with the cinema community here,” he added. “If I had not continued my dream of acting, I would probably have broken the score record of Francesco Totti,” continued Chalamet, referring to the former captain of the Roma Soccer Club, of which he is an ardent fan.
“The European origins and the American history of Timothee Chalamet make him one of the most unpredictable and talented protagonists of international cinema today, capable of being both an artist author and trends and styles generating stars,” said Piera, president and artistic director of the Italian Cinema Academy.
Among the pioneers of the David di Donatello prizes of this year are “Parthenope” by Paolo Sorrentino, “The Great Ambition” by Andrea Segre, “Vermiglio” by Maura Delpero and “The Art of Joy” by Valeria Golino.
