The New York Times Company has agreed to concede its editorial content to Amazon for use in artificial intelligence platforms of the technology giant, the company announced on Thursday.
The agreement “will bring editorial content to a variety of Amazon customer experiences,” the press organization said in a press release. In addition to press items, the agreement also includes NYT Cooking equipment, the food and Times revenue site, and athletics, which focuses on sports.
This is the first example of the time which accepted a license arrangement by emphasizing the generative technology of AI.
In 2023, The Times continued Openai And his partner, Microsoft, for copyright violation, accusing technological companies of using millions of articles published by Times to train automated chatbots without any compensation. Openai and Microsoft rejected these accusations.
The financial conditions of the license agreement with Amazon have not been disclosed.
“The agreement is in accordance with our long -standing principle that high -quality journalism deserves to be paid,” said Meredith Kopit Levien, director general of Times, in a note to staff. “It aligns with our deliberate approach to guarantee that our work is appreciated in an appropriate manner, whether through commercial transactions or by the application of our intellectual property rights.”
The use by Amazon of the editorial content of the Times could extend to Alexa software found on its smart speakers. Times equipment will also be used to form Amazon owners’ models, said the company.
