Tim and Jenny Smucker sell NYC home in the Plaza for $1.9M

The Smuckers got into a bit of a jam at the famous Plaza Hotel – but it turned out sweeter than sugar.

Tim and Jenny Smucker, the eighth generation of the famous fruit spread family, raked in more than $1 million when they auctioned off their one-bedroom hotel pied-à-terre – for 1 .9 million, according to city real estate records. The couple bought it for $2.95 million in 2021.

The apartment comes with a private terrace, which is rare for the iconic Central Park-facing building at 768 Fifth Ave.

Tim Smucker is the fourth generation to run the Ohio-based JM Smucker Company, founded in 1897 and whose jars are commonly seen in the jam aisles of American grocery stores.

This could have been a tricky situation. But the financial hit did not deter the confined family from leaving the hotel.

In fact, the family loves the building so much that they purchased a larger unit on the ninth floor for $3.7 million, Gimme Shelter can exclusively reveal.

This 1,212 square foot residence features one bedroom, 1.5 bathrooms, and stunning views of Central Park. This is the largest one-bedroom apartment in the building, with 12-foot-high ceilings and a large park-facing living/dining room, ideal for entertaining.

Details include herringbone hardwood floors, crown and floor moldings, and hand-painted walls. The bedroom has a walk-in closet and an adjoining spa-like bathtub.

The Smuckers purchased the unit through an unnamed shell company, Spring Row Holdings, based in Akron, Ohio. The condo was on the market for $4.25 million.

“It’s a buyer’s market. Prices have come down and there are good deals at the Plaza,” said an insider.

Listing broker Charlie Attias, of Corcoran, declined to comment.

Their new pied-à-terre is significantly larger than No. 508, which is 782 square feet — and whose terrace is 522 square feet. This small residence is very quiet, as it faces the fountain and gardens of the Plaza. Inside, the condo also features old-world details such as herringbone wood floors and moldings.

It is also located next to the Astor Suite, No. 509, that John Jacob Astor, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, President John F. Kennedy, former Facebook Chairman Sean Parker and Esprit founder Jürgen Friedrich all took up residence.

Models 508 and 509 were designed by SR Gambrel, an AD100 interior designer, who hired some of the same craftsmen who helped restore England’s Windsor Castle.

The Smuckers hired an Ohio company, Kiko Auctions — which also sells tractors — to handle the auction, Gimme Shelter previously reported.

Eileen McGill of Elegran Forbes Global Properties was the listing broker alongside Peter R. Kiko of Kiko Auctions.
