TikTok is back – at least partially – in the United States following a nationwide ban, but other popular apps owned by ByteDance, such as the digital card game Marvel Snapvideo editing app CapCut and social platform Lemon8 are still blocked. None of these apps, including TikTok, are currently available for download on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Although many users expected CapCut and Lemon8 to be affected by the law banning TikTok, Marvel SnapGoogle’s ban surprised some, including its own developer. On Sunday morning, game studio Second Dinner said in a post on X: “This outage comes as a surprise to us and was not expected. MARVEL SNAP isn’t going anywhere. Marvel Snap is published by Nuverse, a game developer owned by ByteDance.
Users attempt to open Wonder InstantCapCut and Lemon8 will see a message similar to the one displayed by TikTok when it gets dark on Saturday evening. “A law banning CapCut has been enacted in the United States,” the pop-up inside CapCut says. “Unfortunately, this means you cannot use CapCut at this time. Rest assured, we are working to restore our service in the United States. Stay tuned! »
Google and Apple display notices to users who try to search for apps owned by ByteDance. While the Play Store states: “Downloads of this app are suspended due to current US legal requirements”, a banner on the App Store states: “TikTok and other ByteDance apps are not available in the country or region in which you find yourself. »
We still don’t know when Marvel SnapCapCut or Lemon8 will start working again or when they reappear in the mobile app stores.
