Tiktok is the second platform to receive an EU warning under the Digital Services Act (DSA), following preliminary conclusions against Elon Musk X released last summer.
Tiktok does not “provide the necessary information on the content of the advertisements, the users targeted by the announcements and who paid advertisements”, and it also does not allow the public to search for announcements, said the Commission.
The Tiktok survey began in February 2024, and several aspects of the survey are exceptional: addictive design, protection of minors and access to data to researchers.
The commission closed another DSA survey on the platform belonging to Bytedance launching a Lite version of its application in France and Spain after Tiktok agreed not to deploy reward features.
A third survey was launched in December 2024 on the involvement of Tiktok in the Romanian elections.
The preliminary results of the DSA on X have not yet led to fines or remedies.
