Tiktok today releases American electronic commerce staff as part of a restructuring of his governance and experience team, five company employees at Business Insider told.
Governance and electronic commerce experience, called GNE for short, is a world team that manages market safety for users, sellers and creators within Tiktok Shop. The group manages tasks such as compliance with the seller, monitoring product lists and the protection of intellectual property.
Business Insider has not been able to immediately learn the extent of the job cuts.
A Tiktok spokesperson refused to comment.
Tiktok’s broader American electronic commerce team was under pressure from global management this year after failing to meet performance expectations in 2024. The organization’s senior manager Bob Kang called the team at an all-Hands of the company in February, previously reported Bi. Some group employees received low scores during annual performance exams in March, leading to performance improvement plans and, in some cases, departure outings.
This month’s layoffs follow a series of February cuts to the Tiktok World Confidence and Security team, which Reuters reported for the first time. This group manages tasks such as content moderation on a wider set of user videos that do not necessarily involve purchases.
The job cuts arrive at a time of flow for Tiktok, because he considers with a 2024 law which forced its owner to decide in its American application. After Bytedance did not comply, Tiktok briefly extinguished in the country. President Donald Trump has since ordered his Attorney General not to enforce the law.
Trump said this week The company was about to conclude an agreement to meet the requirements for disinvestment, but it collapsed after the United States has taken new prices on China. The Chinese government, such as the Trump administration, should approve the agreement. Tiktok could become a negotiation program in the midst of broader commercial negotiations.
A Bytedance spokesman told Bi on Friday that it was in discussions with the US government concerning a potential solution for Tiktok in the United States, but an agreement had not been executed, and no agreement would be submitted to approval under Chinese law.
