Chinese President Xi Jinping ordered “all-out” rescue efforts to save lives and minimize losses, the official Xinhua news agency reported.

The president also “urged efforts to prevent secondary disasters, properly resettle affected residents, and effectively manage resulting works,” it reported.

In 2015, nearly 9,000 people died and more than 22,000 were injured when a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal, destroying more than half a million homes.
