A man from the County of Riverside, accused of several counts of domestic violence, was at the center of a fight of a courthouse which led to three deputies of the sheriff sent to the emergency room, according to the authorities.
Ryan James Chalfant, 31, tried to flee the Riverside County Hall of Justice after refusing to be handcuffed at his hearing on on Friday, said the Sheriff of the County of Riverside.
Chalfant faced accusations of two charges of corporal injury to a spouse or a cohabitant with a previous sentence in the last seven years, a head of criminal threats and a chief of imprisonment – all crimes, according to the Archives of the Superior Court of the Riverside County.
A court deputy followed him from the courtroom, where two additional deputies saw him and joined the prosecution, said the department spokesperson. Wendy Brito-Gonzalez. The three deputies found themselves in minor injuries as they were trying to apprehend a chalfant and were transported to a local hospital, she said.
The Sheriff’s office will request additional charges against Chalfant following the incident, she said.
He was restarted on Friday afternoon and reserved for several new accusations, according to the newspaper of the county detainees. They include committing a crime on bail, resisting a peace agent, causing serious bodily injuries, a battery on a peace agent, escaping custody using force and violating probation.
Chalfant was not injured during the fight but was transported to the hospital for a medical assessment according to the standard protocol of the department, said Brito-Gonzalez.
He was initially arrested on Valentine’s Day after a call for domestic violence and lodged a deposit of $ 50,000 the next day, according to the Detainee’s Journal of the county. On Friday, during his indictment hearing, a judge set his deposit at $ 1 million and ordered him to be arrested.
It is now planned to be brought to justice, once again, Tuesday, according to the judicial archives.
He has already been convicted of domestic violence and was in parole and probation at the time of his arrest in February, according to the judicial archives. In 2022, Chalfant was found guilty of two charges of bodily injuries to a spouse or a cohabitant, two charges of criminal threats and a head of crime of attempted attempted to escape an officer, according to the judicial archives.
