A young child has been found drowned after he was allegedly killed by his mother – with two siblings under the age of five and the mother herself still missing, after the children’s father allegedly took his own life.
Maplewood Minnesota cops said they found the body of a child Friday night. The gender of the victim is unclear, although all three child victims are under the age of five.
Meanwhile, the children’s unnamed mother is still missing. Police believe she may have killed her children, and then herself, after her husband allegedly shot dead at the family home earlier on Friday morning.
The husband was only named Kos by his sister, Pa Lee, who shared the news of the tragic death of her siblings on Facebook, along with the discovery of the body of one of Kos’s children, and feared that the other two children of the late father are also dead. .
It is still unclear what triggered the tragic chain of events.
A spokesperson for the Maplewood Police Department said that around 4:00 p.m. on July 1, authorities were called to Lake Vadnais to receive a report about a possibly suicidal mother who was traveling there with her children.
Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher said investigators determined the children went into the water with their mother in an apparent murder-suicide as the children’s shoes and the mother’s car were found near water.
This spokesperson confirmed that a child had been found dead. Sheriff Fletcher told the media it was a triple murder.
The children’s father identified by the name Kos in several social media posts. His sister wrote on Facebook: “Goodbye forever my most beautiful brother”. He is believed to have committed suicide this morning at the family home in Maplewood, Minnesota. Cops now fear his wife – who has not been named – drowned the couple’s three young children in a nearby lake and also committed suicide
The children’s father was found dead here at a home in a mobile home park in Maplewood, Minnesota
Investigators say the children’s father killed himself using one of his two guns in his bedroom while wearing pajamas
Authorities have promised to continue the search for the missing children and their mothers overnight
Officials have confirmed that the horror unfolding by the lake is linked to a suicide at Rolling Hills Estates Mobile Home Park earlier today.
The man who committed suicide at the trailer park is the father of the children and the husband of the missing woman.
All children are under five years old. Fletcher said: “A horrible set of facts seems to be developing. We do not know the certainty of the three children, but have recovered one child. There is nothing more tragic than the loss of young children.
Officials said the search and rescue team will continue their search throughout the night.
The children’s father’s sister wrote on Facebook the morning of the suicide: “Farewell forever my most beautiful brother. Why do you make me so mad and so sad at the same time. I’m so sorry I’m 20 minutes late and can’t help you.
She added: ‘I drove so fast to help and stop you, but I still failed. I’m sorry for letting you down in this life and being late to help you. Only if I was faster then you’ll be alive.’
The father is identified in several social media posts as Kos.
In a series of videos posted by family members, investigators reveal the children’s father committed suicide in his bedroom in his pajamas.
One of these videos shows the room being ransacked.
A family member suggests the father had more than one gun and used the ‘biggest’ one to kill himself.
Other videos show large members of the Hmong community surrounding the lake, staying close to police as the search continued into the night.
The Twin Cities region is home to the largest concentration of Hmong people in the United States, with over 66,000 residents.
