Thousands of teens are being pushed into Army Junior ROTC

Ms Thomas said she and other students who had been forced into JROTC had often heard recruiters come up with the idea of enlisting in the military in order to get help paying for their education. One of Mrs. Thomas’ classmates joined the army, and Mrs. Thomas filled on the initial recruitment paperwork one day, lured by promises from recruiters who had visited the school. But she was never serious, she said, and ultimately stuck with her plan to pursue a civilian healthcare career.
Ms Thomas, now a freshman at university, said she was no longer responding to the recruiter, although she still heard from him.
“He still texts me to this day,” she said.
