- Ryanair will put an end to the passage of paper from November.
- This decision will mean the end of the $ 59 airport registration fees from the European airline.
- We do not know how Ryanair passengers without smartphones will embark after the change will take effect.
The largest airline in Europe plans to eradicate paper lets.
Ryanair said on Wednesday that passengers would not be able to get on board using digital leaves emitted via its application from November 3.
It is a delay in the May target announced at a press conference last October by CEO Michael O’Leary.
While many airlines encourage passengers to use digital leaves, Ryanair would be the first airline to fully abandon the paper.
The Irish airline said that 80% of its 200 million annual passengers were already using digital leaves.
He added that this decision should improve customer experience and encourage the adoption of its functionalities in the application, such as disturbance updates and alternative flight options.
As a budget carrier, the Ryanair business model is based on additional modules. In addition to luggage fees and the sale of drinks and duties franchise items, Ryanair generally invoices 55 euros (around $ 59) to register at the airport and receive a paper allowance.
It plans to “eliminate almost all airport registration costs” with the change.
On his website, Ryanair also says that the pass of boarding paper are necessary for passengers who move away from airports in Morocco or Tirana, Albania, in the United Kingdom.
This is due to local rules, it is therefore not clear what it will mean when Ryanair’s paperless boarding will come into force in November.
We also do not know how passengers without smartphones would go on board.
If the phone of a passenger lacks battery at the airport, O’Leary said that there were already protocols in place at the boarding gates, according to the telegraph.
In the announcement on Wednesday, Dara Brady, director of marketing of Ryanair, cited the “massive passage to the use of mobile” in other ticket industries such as concerts and sports.
“It is time to transition from the remaining passengers to digital, which will see them reduce their carbon footprint and receive a more fluid and improved travel experience,” he added.
Ryanair said this decision would save more than 300 tonnes of paper waste per year.
