‘This could be his demise’ – Mike Tyson warned Jake Paul fight would be ‘dangerous’

Mike Tyson was warned against Jake Paul, who is in his physical prime.

British star Denzel Bentley believes Tyson’s meeting with Paul on July 20, which will see him return to the ring at the age of 58, could see the “demise” of Iron Mike.

It has been confirmed that the showdown will take place under professionally sanctioned rules, the legend’s first outing since retiring in 2005 after losing to Kevin McBride.

And Bentley, who spoke out to raise awareness of the Steel Warriors’ anti-crime campaign, insists Tyson’s lifestyle does not lead to a return to boxing.

“Everyone wants to make money and good luck to them,” Bentley told talkSPORT.com.

“To be honest, I don’t care, but this fight here is about a young athlete against an old man who hasn’t worked for a long time.

“He’s not the same Mike Tyson that we all loved and knew, so I want to see him die.

“He’s 58 years old and he’s not a 58-year-old guy who stays in shape, he smokes weed and lives his life.

“He’s only in the gym now because of this fight, Jake Paul is an athlete, he’s a young man coming into his prime and trying to take boxing seriously.

“So I think it could be very dangerous for Mike Tyson.”

Tyson is far from in peak physical condition, having suffered from sciatica that even required him to use a cane.

But the former undisputed heavyweight champion posted training footage in a bid to prove his fitness for his appearance.

He also revealed that he plans to quit smoking cannabis and train regularly to ensure he is in the best possible shape for fight nights.

And his trainer, Rafael Cordeiro, who will likely oversee Tyson’s comeback from his corner, is adamant he is in superb shape to beat Paul.

He said: “I think we don’t have to worry about it. We are talking about a double world champion.

“The guy hasn’t had 20 fights in two years, he knows how to fight. He’s fought against the best guys in the world.

“When he gets in the ring, he knows what to do. It’s not something new for Mike, and this fight is no different.

“He works hard every day to go out there and try to take out Jake from start to finish. He’s going to prove it in July.”
