This chain became a sensation in Boise 25 years ago. Now his first restaurant here has closed

When Carl’s Jr. debuted in Treasure Valley a quarter-century ago, it swung for the fences.

The Boise franchisee revealed plans to launch three locations in Idaho’s capital, plus one each in Meridian and Nampa, according to Idaho Statesman archives.

This was big news. Kenny Rogers Roasters – remember this brand? — even moved from its location on State Street to share the building with Boise’s first Carl’s Jr., which opened in 1999.

But now that original location is history. The standalone Carl’s Jr. located at 226 S. Broadway Ave. (a stone’s throw from Chick-fil-A) recently closed its doors. Exterior signage has been removed. Workers are renovating the building.

Known for its grilled burgers, chicken, fries and shakes, Carl’s Jr. is one of the heavyweight fast food chains in the United States. The Broadway Avenue closure follows the closing last year of another longtime Carl’s Jr., located at 4999 W. Glenwood St.

But if you’re craving Carl’s, there are still plenty of options. The chain operates three remaining locations in Boise, as well as others in Meridian, Eagle, Nampa and Caldwell.

“Founded in 1941, Carl’s Jr. has been a West Coast favorite for over 80 years…” according to its website. “Today, we have more than 1,000 locations across the United States and serve 28 countries worldwide. »
