CINCINNATI (AP) — A third-floor balcony of a building near the University of Cincinnati collapsed Friday night, sending 10 people to the hospital, including one person in critical condition, officials said.
Five of the people were seriously injured, while four had minor injuries, Capt. Stephen Bower of the Cincinnati Police Department said at a news conference. He described the building as a place where many students live.
“They had a big exam today and they were celebrating,” he said.
Authorities are investigating the collapse, Cincinnati Fire Chief Frank McKinley told WKRC-TV.
The number of people present on the balcony at the time of its collapse was not immediately specified.
In photos and videos posted online, a balcony on the ground can be seen as firefighters and police officers work nearby.
