Thieves steal about $30 million in historic Easter heist in Sylmar area, LAPD says – Press Enterprise

Police are investigating the theft of nearly $30 million from a Sylmar cash storage facility in one of the largest heists in Los Angeles history, Los Angeles police confirmed Wednesday. Angeles to City News Service.

“The money was stolen on Easter Sunday from an unspecified location in the Sylmar area,” Officer David Cuellar told CNS.

He added that the Los Angeles Police Department and the FBI were working on a joint investigation into the burglary and that police would have no further information at this time.

The Los Angeles Times, citing sources close to the investigation, said the burglars forced open the roof of the building and gained access to the vault without triggering the facility’s alarm system.

The newspaper said the company was unaware of the crime until employees opened the safe on Monday.
