Thief steals $1,000 worth of deodorant from Agoura Hills store

Talk about a clean getaway: A man wearing a blue medical coat made off with more than $1,000 worth of deodorant in a heist that baffled authorities for weeks.

Now the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help in detecting it.

The deodorant incident occurred March 17 at a CVS pharmacy in Agoura Hills shortly after 8:30 p.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

The man entered the store, loaded a reusable Target bag with various deodorant products and left without paying, the department said. It’s unclear if the thief was loyal to the brand, but authorities say it’s no secret he took about $1,200 worth of stolen goods.

A series of brazen shoplifting incidents in recent years has resulted in a series of bills in Sacramento, with lawmakers introducing several bills to combat retail theft and illegal online sellers .

A bill co-sponsored by two top Democrats in the Assembly would specifically target retail thieves with tougher penalties and longer prison terms of up to three years.

Anyone with information about the theft of the deodorant can call the LA Crime Stoppers hotline at (800) 222-TIPS (8477). The Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station can also be reached at (818) 878-1808.
