‘They were cheating:’ Charlie Kirk unloads on Twitter’s ‘Rigging the Platform’ with Shadowbanning

Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk has blasted Twitter for ‘cheating’ and ‘rigging the platform for his own political ends’ after it was confirmed on Thursday that his Twitter account had been banned under the former social media platform owner.

“Now we know they were cheating, rigging the platform for their own political ends,” Kirk told Breitbart News. “Let’s let the whole truth out, and see how involved the DOJ and FBI were. This is the other shoe to drop.

Kirk was reacting to Twitter files posted on Elon Musk’s platform by the former New York Times journalist Bari Weiss, who confirmed that Kirk – among other conservative voices – had been banned by the company under “visibility screening” or “VF” headings.

Breitbart News has reported for years on Big Tech’s shadow banning and other censorship tools like those revealed Thursday. Meanwhile, the establishment press had suggested that those concerns were nothing more than conspiracy theories being pushed by Breitbart and the likes of Kirk.

After being asked if he felt vindicated now that Twitter files confirmed otherwise, Kirk told Breitbart News, “Yeah, I feel vindicated. I’ve been complaining about this for 2-3 years, and I was told to stop complaining and that I was a conspiracy theorist.

“I went from being one of the top 10 most engaged accounts on the planet with over 115,000 retweets to less than 1,000 days. Now we know why,” Kirk added.

In a separate statement posted to social media on Thursday evening, Kirk revealed that in 2018 he met with then-Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, who assured him that Twitter was not banning the accounts.

“Either he lied or those policies didn’t take effect until later, which is plausible given what happened next,” Kirk said.

“Within 6 months of our meeting, I started noticing severe throttling of some posts that were obviously being deleted,” Kirk continued. “I reached out to the executives I had met before, and while trying to get answers about declining engagement, they just stopped responding.”

Kirk went on to say that in 2019, after his account was named by Axios as “one of the 10 most engaged in the country”, he noticed that his engagement dropped even more severely.

“As the 2020 election approached, I witnessed a precipitous and massive drop in engagement,” he said. “It was obvious at that point that I was being directly targeted and censored.”

“For the next two years I had zero engagement and no follower growth, but Twitter would still trend ‘Charlie Kirk’ if someone else tweeted about me,” the TPUSA founder added. .

Kirk noted that “Since Elon bought Twitter, I’ve seen follower growth and engagement increase significantly. Not quite back to 2018/2019 levels, but close. Now we know why.

“We will never know how much damage Twitter’s censorship of my account and those of others has caused to public discourse, to the marketplace of ideas, to my work at TPUSA, or to the 2020 presidential election,” Kirk added. . “Twitter may be a private company, but it was digital tyranny, period.”

A screenshot of Kirk’s internal account dashboard shows he was placed on “Recent Abuse Strike”, “Spike Notifications”, and “Do Not Amplify”.

Twitter files also revealed that conservative commentator Dan Bongino and the popular Libs of TikTok account were also targeted by former Twitter executives.

Kirk is now asking Musk, the new owner of Twitter, to post information about all the accounts that have been banned.

“I’m glad Elon Musk and Bari Weiss confirmed that my account was targeted, but every Twitter user deserves to know if they too have been targeted in some way,” he said. he declares. “Twitter should publicly post ALL information about shadowbans, regardless of the size of the target. Bring out the truth.

Kirk isn’t the only one asking Musk to release more information about the other people involved, as many other Twitter users have inquired about the status of their accounts.
