It may seem like a daunting task to get your first outdoor security camera, but over the past few years, I’ve found that I rarely use cameras for actual security. Instead, it’s great to be able to see if my dog is in the yard, or if the gate is open, or to be alerted when friends come over or I receive a package. The truth is, these cameras aren’t there for intruders: they’re there to capture life as it happens outside your door. While I haven’t tested any of these cameras, these are the best deals I’ve found on outdoor security cameras during Prime Day if you’re looking to buy one for your own home for the first time.

Eufy Solo Cameras

If you ask me which cameras to buy, I’ll tell you that Eufy Solocams are the ones I rely on when I’m not testing other cameras. I love the dual lenses and 360-degree field of view. Plus, you can store clips locally if you have a Eufy Backup Hub.

REOLINK 5GHz Security Cameras

While I haven’t tested this model, I’m currently using a similar Reolink solar model and have been really impressed with how well this solar panel holds its charge. The Reolink app isn’t my favorite, but I still find the camera’s resolution to be excellent, the feed displays quickly, and I have very few complaints overall. If you’re installing a wireless camera, it’s hard to beat a 50% or more discount.

Blink Outdoor 4 Cameras

Blink cameras are a little barebones compared to other high-end security cameras, but for $39.99, they’re a steal, trust me. I found them very easy to set up, and they hold a decent battery life with a pretty good field of view. The resolution is excellent, and the system is expandable, which I like. Pro tip: Get a Sync module so you can store clips locally, avoiding the subscription.

Ring Floodlight Cam Plus and Ring Stick Up Cam Pack

I used this camera earlier this year to monitor my dog’s exit from the backyard, and there were two things I really liked about it. The camera started recording lightning fast after detecting motion (he was a flighty Doberman, so it was that fast). Second, the resolution was stunning. While it looks like a camera that should sit on a shelf, it mounts easily to fences and other vertical structures. The wired spotlight is essentially the same camera, with a spotlight.

Google Nest Cam Outdoor or Indoor

While I haven’t tested the Nest Cam, I like its modern design and the fact that it doesn’t require a subscription. If you’re tied into the Google ecosystem, these cameras are very useful. Just know that you’ll need a Gmail account: you can’t associate them with any other type of email.

AOSU Wired Floodlight Camera

I love outdoor pan and tilt cameras, where the eye in the sky can be operated remotely to target different areas of your yard. AOSU is a relatively new entry on the market, which I’ll have the chance to test out next month. After opening the box, it’s a solid build, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it compares to my favorite eufy Solocams. With a similar design, you get a 360-degree field of view with a 2,600-lumen floodlight.
