San Jose – A woman died in a collision with a single vehicle on Saturday evening after a car left the road, collided with a stump and overturned, the San Jose police service said in a press release.
The driver of the vehicle was detained for suspicion of guilty manslaughter, the authorities said.
Around 9:01 p.m., the police responded to a collision near the San Tomas motorway and Moorpark avenue.
A Nissan 2005 beige sedan had taken northern direction on the San Tomas motorway with an adult male driver and an adult female woman, police announced. The car moved to high speed and the driver lost control.
The car left the road south of Moorpark avenue and collided with a strain and a reversal, the authorities added.
The passenger suffered “catastrophic injuries,” said the police. She was pronounced died on the scene of the collision.
The adult male driver suffered deadly injuries and was taken to the hospital, where he was stabilized, the authorities said. Police placed the driver in police custody and, after his release from the hospital, he will be sentenced to prison of the county of Santa Clara, suspected of guilty manslaughter.
The accident marks the ninth deadly collision and the ninth death of traffic of the year.
The name of the deceased passenger will be released by the Coroner office of the County of Santa Clara once his identity is confirmed and that his closest parent is notific.
