A new official portrait of President Trump was unveiled by the White House, replacing a previous photograph which was published for the inauguration of Mr. Trump this year.
The portrait, revealed by the White House by A short video Monday, shows Mr. Trump, wearing a red tie, in close -up in a dark backdrop. His face, carrying a severe expression, is accentuated by a high contrast and dark shadows.
Lighting and bottom differ from The released portrait for the inauguration of Mr. TrumpWho was more uniformly lit but still moderate, and showed the president in a blue tie in front of an American flag.
The absence of an American flag in the background of the most recent portrait is a gap in contemporary tradition. A gallery of portraits spent on the website of Congress Library shows that a flag has appeared in each official presidential photograph since Gerald Fordwhich was published by the White House in 1974.
Before Mr. Ford, most of the presidents were shown in a simple context because Mr. Trump is in his last portrait.
The new photograph has already been added to the White House website.
