As the devastating Los Angeles wildfires continue, The Weeknd has postponed the release of his upcoming album, Hurry up tomorrowand canceled the album release concert that was scheduled to take place at the city’s Rose Bowl. “Out of respect and concern for the residents of Los Angeles County,” Abel Tesfaye wrote on Instagram, “I have decided to delay the release of my album until January 31st.” Read his full statement below.
Hurry up tomorrow was originally scheduled to be released next Friday, January 24. The project will include the singles “Dancing in the Flames,” “Timeless (feat. Playboi Carti),” and “São Paulo (feat. Anitta).” Later this year, Tesfaye is expected to release a film, also titled Hurry up tomorrowin which he will star alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan.
Many musicians and their families have started fundraisers after being severely affected by the Los Angeles wildfires, including Zachary Cole Smith of Diiv, Tim Darcy of Should and Cola, Empress Of and Fat Tony. Earlier in the day, producer Madlib said he lost his home, music archives and all his recording equipment in the fires. So far, the Recording Academy and MusiCares have pledged $1 million, and Beyoncé has pledged $2.5 million for wildfire relief efforts; a benefit concert, FireAid, has also been announced, which will take place at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood on Thursday, January 30.
