Amendment 1 failed Vote “no”, which means that legislators will not have the power to create new specialized courts. The Supreme Court of Louisiana will also not have widening to discipline lawyers outside the State, leaving unchanged legal surveillance. The supporters argued that this would have strengthened the judicial system, while the opponents feared giving legislators too much control over legal issues.
Amendment 2 failed Keep the current income tax structure and intact expenditure limits. This means no automatic tax deductions for the elderly, no abrogation of land tax on the inventory of companies and no guaranteed increase in teacher remuneration. While some considered him a failed opportunity for tax relief, others were concerned about the potential impact on state financing.
Amendment 3 failed Voting “ not ” meaning that the state will not widen the list of crimes that allow minors to be prosecuted in adulthood. The existing rules of Louisiana on justice for minors remain in place, the opponents arguing that trying more minors as adults would have led to more severe sentences without attacking rehabilitation.
Amendment 4 failed Keep the current system to fill the judicial vacancies. The courts will continue to operate within the framework of existing electoral deadlines rather than being required to use the oldest electoral date available. Critics of the amendment had argued that the precipitated judicial elections could lead to less commitment from the voters.
The four changes rejected, the voters of Louisiana have chosen to maintain the status quo, keeping the current state policies on taxation, legal surveillance, criminal justice and vacancies in place.
