The NHL has suspended the vice-president and the alternative governor of Florida Panthers, Doug Cifu, of any involvement in the team or the League, which did it in response to inappropriate messages on the now closed social media account.
CIFU, in articles on X, entered a back and forth with a Toronto fan on Sunday evening, the fan starting the exchange by comparing current series against the Maple Leafs for The conflict between Israel and the Palestinians.
An article on the CIFU account shortly after, in response to the Toronto fan, referred to the fan a “51st state anti semite loser”. President Donald Trump has often said in recent months that he wanted to see Canada add to the United States as the 51st state. This position was one of those who were deleted shortly after, and the account has since been suspended.
“The NHL concluded that Mr. Cifé’s X positions were unacceptable and inappropriate,” the league said in a statement, reported for the first time by the Toronto Sun. “Consequently, Mr. Cifu was suspended indefinitely of any involvement with the club and the NHL.”
CIFA – whose name is engraved on the Stanley Cup, which is part of the group that the Panthers included in this tribute after winning their first title last year – is CEO of Virtu Financial, a company he co -founded with the owner, president and governor of Panthers, Vincent Viola in 2008.
CIFA will have a person in person with Commissioner Gary Bettman at some point.
“My behavior does not reflect the standards of the organization of Florida Panthers and the family of the viola,” CIFU said in a statement at Florida Hockey now. “I sincerely apologize to all those affected by my comments. I undertake to work with the NHL to modify my actions. ”
