The Vance motorcycle remained in the Vatican for 17 minutes, according to media reports.
On Saturday, Vance met the best diplomat in the Vatican, Cardinal Pietro Paroline, in the middle of the friction between Washington and Pope Francis on the mass deportation policy of the American president Donald Trump.
“A cordial conversation took place” between the pontiff and Vance, the Vatican said in a press release.
“There was an exchange of opinions on the international situation, in particular with regard to countries affected by war, political tensions and difficult humanitarian situations, with particular attention to migrants, refugees and prisoners,” he said.
The pontiff in February wrote a letter strongly written to the bishops in the United States expressing his concern concerning the deportation efforts of Washington, calling them to consider the “infinite and transcendent dignity of each human person” and by recalling that Jesus Christ himself lived a life of exile.
The uncertain health of the Pope already raises questions and rumors about whom he will succeed him, with cardinals more divided than ever.
