San Jose – Amanda Gutierres came out of the bench to score in time and Brazil beat the American national women’s team, 2-1, Tuesday evening.
It was the second of the two exhibition games against the Brazilians, which the United States defeated to win the gold medal at the Paris Olympic Games last summer. Brazil has not defeated the Americans since December 14, 2014.
Catarina Macario put the United States to only 34 seconds in the match. After Aalyssa Thompson ran the ball on the left side, Macario picked it up and bypassed the goalkeeper of Brazil Natascha, who was just his fourth departure. It was Macario’s 10th goal.
Brazil even drew with the goal of Kerolin from a distance in the 24th minute that the American goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn could not reach. It was only the ninth goal that the United States had authorized since Emma Hayes took over as a coach last May.
GUTIERRES marked a cross of Luany deeply in the time of stopping. It was the first victory for a team from Conmebol on the Americans on American soil.
McGlynn made her third departure for the national team. Hayes started Phallon Tullis-Joyce in the first match against Brazil, while raising goalkeepers after the retirement of Alyssa Naeher.
Trinity Rodman, who scored in the 2-0 on Saturday victory at the Sofi stadium, did not dressed for the match at the Paypal Park in San Jose as a precaution after his return from a back injury.
Rodman was part of the formidable team of the team nicknamed “Triple Espresso” at the Olympic Games. Sophia Smith, who now bears her Wilson wedding name, is on maternity leave and Mallory Swanson is not with the team for personal reasons.
Alyssa and Gisele Thompson started together for the second time. They are the first sisters to start for the United States from Sam and Kristie Mewis in July 2021.
Hayes made seven changes to its programming on Saturday match. American starters have an average of 17.9 appearances with the national team, the least for any departure group in 24 years.
The next two national team games are against China on May 31 in St. Paul, Minnesota and June 3 in Saint-Louis.
