Ben Christman, an offensive player in university football who had been transferred from Kentucky to UNLV, was found dead in his apartment outside campus in February at the age of 21, one day before his birthday.
Christman would have felt chest pain the day before his death during his practice and suffered an EKG in a team.
Well, the Clark County Coroner office (Nevada) announced Thursday that Christman died of a cardiac arrhythmia, an irregular heart rate and cardiomyopathy, a disease that has an impact on heart muscle.
Christman was at Ohio State for two seasons before transferring to Kentucky.
He spent the 2023 season with a knee injury and played in special teams in 2024.
He had to play for the UNLV in the next 2025 season.
“The heart of our team is broken to hear Ben’s death,” said UNLV head coach Dan Mullen in a statement at the time of his death. “Since the day Ben set foot on our campus a month ago, he made rebels a better program. Ben was an easy choice for our management committee because he had gained immediate respect, admiration and friendship of all his teammates.
“Our prayers go to his family and to all those who knew him. Ben has made people a better place and we will miss. ”
School president Keith E. Whitfield said he was “incredibly saddened” to hear about Christman’s death.
“We can say little to reduce the pain of suddenly losing a member of our university family to such a young age, and my heart breaks for all those who knew and loved him,” he said. “On behalf of the UNLV, our sincere condolences are with the family, friends, relatives and teammates of Ben during this very difficult period.”
Christman was from Akron, Ohio, and played football in high school at the Lycée Revere. It was a four -star recruit leaving the school.
