The Trump administration has withdrawn the United States from the United Nations climate damage fund which was created in 2023 to COP28 to help developing countries most vulnerable to climate change when natural disasters strike.
The establishment of the fund was a victory for climate change activists in developing countries, with nearly 200 countries that have signed the agreement. At the 2023 climate conference, the United States promised $ 17.5 million to the fund, while the EU contributed $ 245 million, including $ 100 million in Germany.
“The member of the United States Board of Directors and a member of the United States board of directors will have broken down, so as not to be replaced by an American representative,” said Rebecca Lawlor, the American representative of the Fund Council, in a letter of March 4.
