The United Kingdom says that Putin’s army seems to have changed pace in Ukraine

Vladimir Putin’s army has slowed considerably with its territorial gains in Ukraine in recent months, according to the United Kingdom.

Russia still occupies about a fifth of the Ukrainian lands, but continues to move forward and try to grasp more territory.

Putin even launched his greatest conscription call to strengthen his army, while Donald Trump is trying to negotiate a peace agreement.

However, Russia is not really much successful on the front line, according to the British Defense Ministry (MOD).

In its latest update on social networks on war, the MOD said: “Russian territorial gains in Ukraine decreased during the first quarter of 2025, Russian forces most likely grasping that 143 km2 of Ukrainian territory in March 2025, an average of less than 5 square kilometers per day.”

British officials retraced this decrease in progress at the end of last year.

“Russia’s advance rate has dropped from month to month since November 2024, when its forces have grasped more than 700 km2,” said MOD.

“Most of the progress of the Russian forces in March 2025 were in the center of the Donetsk Oblast, but Russia has not improved its operational position.”

And, according to intelligence officers, Ukraine successfully repels some of the Russian forces.

“Ukrainian forces have also carried out tactical counterattacks, reversing some of Russia’s earnings around Pokrovsk,” they said.

“The level of Russian ground attacks on several axes has been reduced for a large part of March 2025.

“These started to increase towards the end of the month, but did not succeed at a higher advance rate.”

It should be noted that the rate of victims of Russia also reached around 900,000 – injured or dead – since Putin invaded Ukraine in 2022, according to the mod.

But, as Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned during the weekend, Russia still launches daily air strikes on Ukraine.

The mod update comes after one of Putin’s ministers postponed American proposals for a peace plan.

The Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Ryabkov, told the media that “there was no room for our main request” in American proposals, and therefore Moscow “cannot accept” such a plan.

Trump put pressure on a quick resolution in the Ukraine War, even if it means to settle on the conditions of Russia.

The American president has managed to obtain partial ceases in the Black Sea and against Ukrainian energy infrastructure-but the two parties now claim that a brief truce has already been broken.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Friday that the world would be “in a few weeks” if Russia was “serious about peace or not”.
