A new security pact with Brussels is a key board of Keir Starmer’s foreign policy strategy in the light of Donald Trump’s movements to distance himself from European security.
Brussels proposed a 150 billion euros loans program that EU governments to spend to rearore. Funds should be invested on a “buy more European” basis, according to Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission.
But without an official defense agreement with Brussels, the United Kingdom will be locked in the program.

When he was asked if he had seen comments from the Minister of Brexit, Nick Thomas-Symonds, arguing that he favored a more stable arrangement, Zeichner said: “He would probably say that. But what we want to do is get the best possible result for British fisheries, and that it will have an additional discussion that will be held in the coming months.
“We are absolutely determined to resist the Fishing Industry in the United Kingdom. The fishing industry has already been disappointed, and I do not intend to let it happen again. ”
The Minister’s comments were welcomed by Alistair Carmichael, the liberal democratic deputy who presides over the environmental committee, who told him that he was “absolutely on money”.
“The fishermen considered that the agreement which had been concluded at the end of the Brexit negotiations was the one who did not deliver what they expected,” he said.
“All that is a new step backwards will be considered very dark by industry, and the very modest progress will leave them still a lot of time when they want it to be.”
