The United Kingdom prohibits meat, dairy products from Hungary, Slovakia, after a case of foot – Politico

The British agricultural industry was devastated by an epidemic of the disease in 2001, with more than 2,000 affected farms and more than 6 million animals slaughtered.

Hungary reports follow complaints last month that German products prohibited were “produced automatically” to enter the United Kingdom six days after the implementation of the prohibition, experts accusing the incident on the unique to the government’s import notification system, known as IPAFFS.

Giving evidence to the environmental committee, food and rural affairs earlier this week, the CEO of NPA, Lizzie Wilson, said that illegal German products still contained the border. Currently, she explained that there is “no mechanism for identifying the trucks that have been self-deprecated as at low risk and therefore automatically produced so that they do not have to be inspected.”

A spokesperson for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Department has denied complaints. “Restrictions were immediately brought to animal products from Germany to prevent an epidemic,” they said. “These goods are not allowed to enter the country, any shipment that transported them will not progress in our customs clearance system and will be arrested at the border.”

According to the latest data from the Development Council for Agriculture and Horticulture (AHDB), the United Kingdom imported 1,823 tonnes of fresh and frozen pork, 48 tonnes of bacon, 722 tonnes of sausages and 264 tonnes of ham and pork transformed into 2024.

That year, the United Kingdom also imported nine tonnes of frozen beef, six tonnes of transformed beef and seven tonnes of beef organs. In terms of dairy products, it imported 1,578 tonnes of cheese and curds, 13 tonnes of powdered and condensed milk, 203 tonnes of whey products and a ton of yogurt and wooden.
