Miami (AP) – A company owned by President Donald Trump continued Capital One on Friday, saying that the bank has interrupted more than 300 of the Trump organization accounts without reason in 2021, shortly after the January 6 attack on the American Capitol.
The prosecution was filed by Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust and Eric Trump in Miami-Dade Circuit Court.
The Trump organization claims that Capital One decision to close the accounts was an attack on freedom of expression and free business. The trial also claims that the decision was a response to Trump’s political opinions.
“Capital One has not and does not close customer accounts for political reasons,” the company said in a statement.
The Trump organization claims to have suffered considerable damage and financial loss when Capital One informed them in March 2021 that the accounts holding millions of dollars would be closed in three months. The trial claims that Capital One has violated the law and the Trump organization requests damages.
The account closures were announced about two months after January 6, 2021, when a crowd of several thousand supporters of Trump attacked the American capitol to try to prevent the legislators from certifying the results of the 2020 elections, who appointed President Joe Biden as winner.
Other banks also stopped doing business with the Trump organization at the same time, while members of the Trump family and family faced civil and criminal surveys.
