The Trump administration cuts access to legal services for unaccompanied migrant children

Cnn
–

The Trump administration ordered legal service providers working with unaccompanied migrant children to stop their work, according to a note obtained by CNN.

This decision is the last in a series of actions stripping the key resources of immigrants in the United States – this time, targeting children and adolescents who have crossed the southern border without their parents.

The Ministry of the Interior sent the order, dated Tuesday, to the Acacia Center for Justice, a non -profit organization which indicates that it helps nearly 26,000 children and released from the care of refugees.

Orr, which comes under the department of health and social services, is responsible for taking care of unaccompanied migrant children.

“The administration’s decision to suspend this program is undergoing the regular procedure, has an impact disproportionately to vulnerable children and puts children who have already undergone serious trauma in danger of damage or exploitation,” said Shaina Aber , Executive Director of the Acacia Center for Justices, in a declaration.

The Florence Immigrant & Refugee Rights Project, which provides presentations “knowing your rights” for children in police custody as well as for other legal services, also condemned this decision.

“Without the services that the Florence project provides through the unaccompanied children’s program, children, regardless of their age, will be forced to represent themselves before the immigration court. This is an unprecedented attack on immigrant children, “said Roxana Avila-Cimpeanu, deputy director of the Florence project, in a statement.

It is unlikely that the order of stopping work affects the children already represented, but the sudden funding of funding could force groups to reduce or close completely.

A few days after the inauguration of President Donald Trump, the Ministry of Justice also told legal services providers to stop work intended to help immigrants, by removing critical access to people in detention trying to navigate the system American immigration tangled. This order was then canceled without explanation.
