A Ohio secondary button player died on Thursday injured in a match earlier this week. He was only 16 years old.
Dylan Veselic, a second year student, was transported urgently to the hospital and suffered an emergency surgery after being injured on Tuesday.
It was reported that the 16 -year -old had been struck by the ball at the back of the head. His family confirmed his death in a declaration on social networks.
“With Heavy Hearts, the veneric family shares the news that Dylan died of injuries suffered in a butt match,” they wrote.
“We are deeply affected by the overwhelming support and kindness shown by our community and beyond.
“We ask you to continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult period.
According to Wkyc, the tragedy struck in the match against Olmsted Falls, when Veselic tried to block a shot from a rival player. The ball would have hit the back of the head, just below its helmet.
In a statement by Matt Spellman and the Bay High School athletics department, Veselic was described as “an incredible student, always having a smile on his face while supporting his teammates.
“He was kind, hardworking and dedicated, constantly showing leadership, empathy and a positive attitude on the ground and in class.
“The enthusiasm, determination and will of Dylan to help others made him a model for his peers.”
The boys’ butt game from Bay high school in Keystone – scheduled for Thursday – has been canceled, while advice is offered to “students, staff and family who need support” in the light of the tragedy.
