The television series “Pacific Rim” found a house on Amazon, Variety has learned exclusively.
The live project, which Variety Exclusively reported in 2024, is now in development at Prime Video in an agreement between the Lead Studio Legendary Television and Amazon MGM Studios.
As indicated above, Eric Heisserer will serve as a screenwriter and executive producer under his chronology banner. The program is the first project in the first television agreement of Chronology with Legendary. The exact details of the plot are kept under the Wraps, but the show will serve as prequel to the films. According to sources, there is also the potential of new films in the franchise.
The first film in the franchise was directed by Guillermo Del Toro from a screenplay by Del Toro and Travis Beacham. It was released in 2013 and brought back more than $ 400 million at the world box office. The continuation, “Pacific Rim Uprising”, bowed in 2018, while the animated series “Pacific Rim: The Black” broadcast two seasons on Netflix between 2021 and 2022. The franchise also includes comics, novels, toys, etc.
In “Pacific Rim”, an inter-dimensional rift opens at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, allowing massive monsters (alias Kaijus) to enter our world and start to attack humanity. In response, humans are starting to build giant combat robots called jaegers.
Heisserer was recently the writer, executive producer and showrunner in the television series “Shadow and Bone” in Netflix, which was based on the novels Grishavese Ya. He received an Oscar nomination for the best script for the film “Arrival” in 2017. His other feature filler writing credits include the successful film “Bird Box” as well as “Lights Out”, “Hours” (which he also made), “Bloodshot” and the 2010 remake of “A Nightmare on Elm Street”.
This is the latest news at the development of Legendary TV and Amazon MGM Studios in recent weeks. It has already been reported that the two studios, with Pacesetter Productions, had entered into an agreement to develop a “wall” by GT Karber from GT Karber “Murdle”.
