Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania (AP) – Tanzanian opposition chief, Tunu Lissu, was accused of betrayal Thursday following his arrest during a public rally in which he called for electoral reforms before the general elections scheduled for October.

Thursday afternoon, Lissu arrived at the Kisutu magistrate court in the commercial capital, Dar es Salaam, appearing in a good mood and in the company of his lawyers and politicians of the opposition party.
The head of the opposition was forced to a police vehicle on Wednesday evening after finishing a public rally in Mbinga, in the south of the country, more than 1,000 kilometers (600 miles) of Dar es Salaam.
“I came here, we held a peaceful meeting, and now I understand the police tactics. We are now clear about the situation; I will not enter the vehicle. There is no need. We are going to sleep here. What is the problem? ” Asked the police for a few moments before his supporters were tearing.
Human rights activists accused the government of the president Samia Suluhu Hassan heavy tactics against the opposition. The government denies complaints.
In 2017, three years before the last elections, Lissu survived an assassination attempt after being killed 16 times.
Tanzania should elect the president and the members of the parliament during the October elections. Chadema criticized the absence of an independent electoral commission and the laws that promote the ruling party, CCM, which has been in power since the independence of Tanzania in 1961.
