The suspension of the India Federation (WFI) was dismissed Tuesday by the Ministry of Sports, giving total body control to the WFI president, Sanjay Singh, a close assistant to former chief and politician Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

The former MP of the BJP, Brij Bhushan, was accused of sexual harassment by several wrestlers.

The India Federation of Wrestling was suspended on December 24, 2023 after having hastily announced the national championships under 15 (U-15) and under 20 (U-20) to Nandini Nagar, Gonda, a region which is considered a bastion of Briting Bhushan.

While revoking the suspension of WFI, the Ministry of Sports said that the control body had taken corrective measures, leading to the abolition of the prohibition.

“In View of the Findings of the Spot Verification Committee, the Compliance Measures Undertaken by the Wfi, and in the Larger Interest of Indian Sports and Athletes, the Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports Hereby Revokes the Suspension of the Wrestling Federation of India (Wfi) Issued Voider of Even 24.12.2023 and restores its recognition as the National Sports Federation (NSF) for Wrestling with Immediate Effect with following Directions, ”The ministry dit in a letter.

The Decision of the Ministry of Sports opens the way to the India Federation of Wrestling to lead national tournaments and select teams for international tournaments.

The Ministry of Sports asks WFI to follow the sports code

The Ministry of Sports also asked WFI to return the amendments it brought during a suspension.

“The WFI must reintegrate the changes made during the suspension period and have a balance of powers among the designated office carriers and provide checks and a balance in the decision -making process and this process should be completed in 4 weeks.

“Anyone who is not elected office carrier, as well as the WFI -suspended / licensee salaried officials must remain completely dissociated from the Federation and its affiliated units. WFI’s CE must give a business in this regard within 4 weeks. Any violation of the company will invite appropriate legal action, including action under the sports code.

“The WFI must ensure that the selection of all international events must be carried out free, fair and transparent according to the existing provisions of the sports code and the other latest instructions issued in this regard as well as the regulations published from time to time by the UWW.”

The letter has also added: “WFI will ensure membership of the sports code, the principles of good governance and the well-being policies of athletes.”
