A man with a sword fleeing the deputies of the sheriff of the county of Santa Barbara sparked a brush fire during his attempt to flee, the authorities said.
The wild sequence of events began when the deputies received a report from “suspect presenting a strange behavior” on Wednesday at the El Capitan Canyon Resort. While they were heading for the scene, the suspect tried to go on a dirt road, but his vehicle was stuck.
The suspect, later identified as Simon Khalili, 40, from Woodland Hills, then disappeared in a neighboring canyon, the Sheriff department announced in a press release.
A few minutes later, flames broke out from the region, the department said. As the fire broke out, the deputies in search of the suspect learned that he would have been armed with a sword – who would present a danger to the firefighters who were to attack the fire before it was out of control.
MPs and protection, firefighters moved to the area to fight the flames while a helicopter dropped the water on the general costs, the authorities said. A K9 unit was called to help research and a helicopter supervised the scene.
Khalili went to the deputies around 7:30 p.m., about two hours after the start of the prosecution, and they put him back to the authorities with California state parks. The fire was stopped at around 1 acre about 10 minutes after the capture of Khalili.
Khalili was sentenced to a county prison, suspected of criminal fire and offense fire, brandishing a neglected weapon and fire of fire, according to the sheriff’s office.
He is held instead of a deposit of $ 75,000.
