Police announced the arrest at a press conference on Wednesday evening but would not discuss a reason. McGann had been hired in Springdale public schools as a teacher candidate for the coming year, but had not yet been in contact with any of her families or students, the district said in a statement.
A lawyer could not be located for McGann, and a message was left for a number listed for him. He was not immediately clear when his first appearance in court was.
“If you commit a violent and insane act here in our state, our police are driving you and will bring you to justice, because this is what the people of Arkansas deserves frankly,” said the journalists of the Governor of Arkansas, Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
Springdale is around 30 miles north of the Den Den Den Parc of the State, where the trails have remained closed since the murders on Saturday.
Clinton David Brink, 43, and Cristen Amanda Brink, 41, were found dead on a walking path in Devil’s Den. Their daughters, who are 7 and 9 years old, were not injured and are treated by family members, the authorities said.
State police have published few details on the investigation, including how the couple was killed.
In the days following the attack, the police released a composite sketch and then a photo of a person of interest that only showed them from behind. The authorities urged the trackers who were in the park to check their camera for photos or videos that could help point a suspect.
Rhoads said that the public help and the video sequences they received played a decisive role in capturing McGann. Advice came from the state of Washington, she said.
“It was overwhelming,” she said.
McGann was a teacher in a small school district of Oklahoma until May, then resigned to take a job in another state, according to a press release from Sand Springs public schools, which is near Tulsa. He added that McGann had passed all the checks of the history.
McGann had not yet started his new job in Arkansas in Sprindale public schools, said Jared Cleveland, the district superintendent. He said the district could not provide more information, quoting the investigation.
“Our whole team extends our greatest condolences to the Brink family. Their children are particularly in our thoughts and prayers,” said Cleveland.
Sierra Marcum declared three years ago, his son was a student in the fourth year class of McGann at Donald primary school in Flower Mound, Texas, and described her as the “most confrontation teacher” she has ever met. The directory of her son includes a photo of McGann.
“Quite cold. You could ask him a question and he would give you a word answer,” she said. “Overall, simply disinterested by his students.”
Marcum told CBS News that, during the school year, his son reported an inappropriate behavior of McGann to the girls of his class. This included being “very delicate with the girls and having them on his lap and making them comments and keeping them in recess”.
In an email sent to the parents in 2023 and shared with CBS News, a school administrator said that McGann had been on leave while waiting for the results of an investigation into “complaints of poor class management and bad professional judgment”.
“Although our investigation has found no evidence of inappropriate behavior with a student, we found that his class management and professional judgment were lower than the expectations of our district,” said the email.
McGann resigned in force immediately, according to the email. Marcum remembers that McGann has left his post about three -quarters of the path throughout his first school year as a teacher.
CBS News contacted the independent school district of Lewisville, of which Donald Elementary is a part, to comment.

The Brink family said that the couple died “hero protecting their little daughters”.
“Our whole state is in mourning for tragic loss and insane and horrible crime that took place in this area,” said Sanders.
