Arlington, Texas – Shohei Ohtani has experienced many significant moments in the field in the past year.
This weekend, he is about to have one.
The Dodgers slugger and the title MVP of the National League were placed on the paternity list, the team announced, in anticipation of the birth of its first child this weekend.
Ohtani stayed in Los Angeles with his wife, Mamiko Tanaka, according to manager Dave Roberts, and was replaced on the list during the Dodgers series against the Texas Rangers by the veteran voltiseur Eddie Rosario, who was called Triple A.
“I don’t know when they’re going to have the baby,” said Roberts. “But obviously, they are together in anticipation.”
Ohtani can stay on the paternity list up to three days – which means that it would be back for the team’s series next week against the Cubs at Wrigley Field at the latest – but Roberts said it was possible that he could join the team later this weekend in Texas.
To make room on the list of 40 men for Rosario, the Dodgers transferred the Lift Edgardo Henriquez to the list of wounded of 60 days.
