- Jamie Elliott de Collingwood received ultimatum health
- Now closing on 200 AFL games in career for the Magpies
Collingwood star Jamie Elliott revealed how a rare condition could have led to the amputation of two of his toes.
The dynamic striker, 32, made his debut with the Magpies in 2012 and won a long -awaited minister 11 years later.
But months after this glory in September 2023 against the Brisbane Lions, Elliott had some blood clots in his toes because of a vascular problem, which led to an urgent conversation with a surgeon.
Elliott received some options – and they were dark.
“One was retired, the other suffered surgery where there was a chance that I could lose a few toes if they were wrong,” he told News Corp.
“I thought:” I don’t know, I like football and there was a little chance that this (amputation) could happen … in the end I put it in the hands of the surgeon.

Elliott underwent risky surgical intervention last year due to a vascular problem – but is now approaching 200 AFL games in career with the Magpies
“They crossed my pubic area, put a tube there and it crosses your main arteries on your leg and your body produces something that naturally reduces your blood.
“They pushed it there and it essentially dissolved the blood clot. The arteries are so small there that if they turn it, it could block it.
Elliott’s surgery finally succeeded, but he knows it was a risky decision.
He is now closing on 200 AFL games in career – and Elliott was reprimanded after being recently added to the group of Collingwood leadership.
As a result, Elliott feels that he grew up as a player and person.
The cult hero excluding contracts also had a message for the boss of the list of Magpies Justin Leptitsch – he is ready for a new agreement.
Since Collingwood has eight stars that have also aged more than 30 years currently in their books, do not be surprised if Elliott remains in black and white beyond 2025.
