Jason Ritter was among the first to experience a massive spoiler for the Matlock Final of the season, and he had trouble keeping it for himself.
The actor, who plays the lawyer Julian Markson on the legal drama, turns out to be the mystery of the Wellbrexa conspirator in the final of the season of this week – and he could not tell anyone on the set or at home.
Showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman dropped the bomb on Ritter about two thirds of the path throughout the season, and Skye P. Marshall, who embodies Julian’s ex, Olympia Lawrence, knew that something was going on almost immediately.
“Jennie moved me away before a table reads and has just said:” I think it is important that you know that it happens “”, says Ritter Weekly entertainment. “So, it was very exciting and it was also very difficult to keep this secret – especially Skye. She really said to herself:” What was this conversation? “I said to myself:” I don’t know anything! “She’s like a laser. I could barely keep the secrets.”
The actor says that he has never even alluded to Julian’s guilt to his wife, Yellow Jackets Star Melanie Lynskey. “It was just the writers and I, as far as I know,” said Ritter, who spoke to EW before Thursday’s final. “Melanie does not like spoilers, so I couldn’t even tell her at home. I still haven’t said in Melanie. She won’t know as long as the final is broadcast because she doesn’t really like a spoiler. So yes, I can finally stop keeping secrets in my own house.”
Ritter also remembers the reaction in the room when the casting has read the script for the last episode of the season. “Some people have not deliberately read the final to be able to hear it live,” he explains. “It was really fun to arrive in the final and hear dressings in the room, and” I can’t believe it was you! “”
He continues: “I remember that people had a great answer to that, and we all talk about what will happen next. How will season 2 start with all the incredible cliffhangers? Alfie’s father comes home, Claudia’s pregnancy, and all that.

In Ritter’s off -competition scene in the final, Julian admits his guilt to Olympia, revealing that he was conspired with his father to hide evidence that could have removed the opioids from the market. “We saw Julian clean up about his affair, we didn’t see him at his best – fighting, shooting, being a little fool,” reflects Ritter. “But this is the first time that we have seen Julian completely vulnerable like that.”
Ritter says: “His armor just cracks, and someone is ready to decide their Achilles heel at any time. The most difficult thing was to try to think: since this person created this fortress around his secret, what is it like when the walls collapse?”
