In response to the comments of the French ambassador, who referred to the holding of new elections in Georgia as “a solution to the political crisis”, referring to comments by Emmanuel Macron, the President of the Georgian Parliament returned the favor by suggesting that holding new elections in France could resolve the political crisis there.

“Not that I am interfering in the internal politics of France, but taking into account the fact that 61% of French people are in favor of the resignation of President Macron and that 50% want the dissolution of the National Assembly, new Elections could be a good way out of the current political situation in this country.

“President Macron appreciates the courage of the demonstrators and Salomé Zourabichvili and emphasizes that new elections in Georgia could be a solution to the political crisis,” the French diplomat wrote a little earlier, on the same social network, referring to the speeches held on January 6 by Emmanuel Macron.

“I ask the network to continue to be committed to all freedom fighters,” he said in front of the ambassadors. “In Georgia, with all those who fought for an election, with this courageous president and these demonstrators, and by fighting for transparency to be made, and if the way out of the crisis must be the reorganization of a election, to do it” he continued.

Emmanuel Macron also pointed the finger at Russia, which according to him would have “obviously destabilized the electoral process and falsified it” in Georgia. Incidentally, the French president notably accused Moscow of having “manipulated the electoral process” in Romania, where the results of the first round of the presidential elections were canceled after the surprise victory of a Eurosceptic candidate who was not in favor of NATO.

Foreign interference: when Emmanuel Macron attacks Elon Musk

Statements which did not prevent Emmanuel Macron, in the same speech, from accusing Elon Musk of interfering in European affairs. “Who would have believed if we were told ten years ago that the owner of one of the largest social networks would support a new reactionary international and directly interfere in elections, including in Germany,” he declared.

Mikhail Kavelashvili, the new Georgian president who took office on December 29, was elected 15 days earlier by an electoral college in a vote boycotted by the opposition, a minority in Parliament following the legislative elections on October 26.

Legislative elections whose pro-Western opposition parties had refused to recognize the result. The latter notably received the support of Western chancelleries as well as members of the European Parliament, who called on Tbilisi to organize new elections “within a year”.

In the wake of this call from the European Parliament, Irakli Kobakhidze announced the suspension until 2028 of all discussions on accession negotiations to the European bloc, provoking the ire of the pro-Western opposition which organizes daily rallies in the capital.
